Almost Home Animal Shelter in Iron Mountain currently has an estimated 25 adult cats and 10 kittens, all in need of a good home
IRON MT. -- Cats in shelters always outnumber dogs. Almost Home Animal Shelter in Iron Mountain currently has an estimated 25 adult cats and 10 kittens, all in need of a good home.
Employees say cats mate more in warmer months, and by the end of the summer their cat population will likely increase. A majority of cats in shelters are found already fixed and declawed. They strayed from their homes and, sadly, owners never come searching for them. The other part of the problem is stray cats. Residents will feel inclined to feed them, but shelter employees say this only adds to the problem.
They recommend residents call authorities to pick up the feline or bring it to a shelter to be spayed or neutered.
