Michelle Fecteau is running for one of the two available seats on the board

MARQUETTE -- A Democratic candidate running for a seat on the state Board of Education traveled to the Upper Peninsula Friday.

Michelle Fecteau is running for one of the two available seats on the board. The position has an eight-year term and is unpaid. Fecteau is a mother of seven children and resides in Detroit. She is currently the executive director of the union for faculty members at Wayne State University.

Fecteau visited Marquette to attend a Democratic social event and to hear the views of U.P. residents.

"I hear very common issues around the whole state, but I wanted to hear particularly what the cancers are in the U.P. and make sure that voice is included in Lansing," said Fecteau.

If elected, she plans to fight for job security, fair treatment in the workplace, and fully funded education.
