New sidewalks, lighting and landscaping are all part of the overhaul
ISHPEMING -- In a special work session Friday morning, the Ishpeming City Council approved a resolution paving the way for new streetscaping projects.
The nearly $600,000 block grant will come from taxable money, which otherwise would have left the community. New sidewalks, lighting and landscaping are all part of the overhaul. Some of the streets slated to receive work include Hematite between Main and Third Streets, and the Lakeshore and Third Sstreet entryways from US-41.
"Downtown America, I guess, all over is dying out with the big box stores," said Mayor Pat Scanlon. "So we're trying to make our downtown more friendly for tourists and visitors to come down and have some unique shops and things to our community."
With the council's approval, the resolution now moves on to the Downtown Development Authority to secure the grant.
