MARQUETTE -- Bicyclists in Marquette and around the world took part in a silent ride Wednesday evening to raise awareness about bicycle safety. The event also served as an opportunity to honor those who have been injured or killed while riding.
Riders left Mattson Lower Harbor Park in Marquette around 7 p.m. They rode along Lakeshore Boulevard, ending at the campus of Northern Michigan University.
"We share the road with cars, lots of people ride bikes on the road, so we want to raise awareness among people who drive cars, and also to raise awareness that we have to follow rules as well," said event organizer, Miriam Moeller.
There was no cost to participate, and the event was sponsored by the Kitchi-Mi-Kana Cycling Club.
