SAGOLA TOWNSHIP -- A former lumber business location in Sagola Township was consumed by fire on Monday morning, but without gas or electricity running in the building, the cause is unknown.
The Aspen Lumber Company location, which has been closed for three years, burned down at around 6:41 on Monday morning. When firefighter crews arrived on the scene, the building was fully engulfed in flames. The building is a total loss, according to authorities.
A cause for the fire has not been identified, but there were no electricity or gas hookups active in the building. The State Fire Marshall is coming to the site to investigate the fire.
Firefighters were cautious when fighting this fire because the contents of the building were unknown. The 20 firefighters that responded worked to keep other buildings surrounding the blaze safe. Some firefighters are remaining at the scene because Monday is a red flag day, meaning extreme wildfire danger.
It took over an hour and a half for the firefighters from Sagola, Felch, Breitung, and Alpha Townships to get the fire under control.
