MARQUETTE -- If you're planning on getting a new refrigerator soon, your timing is right. Energy Optimization is conducting a rebate program.
If you recycle your old fridge, you can get a $30 check by mail for it. Older models waste more energy; by switching to a newer one, you can save $100 on your energy bill annually.
"They're older models, they tend to be more inefficient. They have older motors that tend to use more electricity. They draw more power from your home, and your refrigerator is one of those pieces that is plugged in 24 hours a day, trying to keep everything cold and frozen," said Michael Larson of the Board of Light and Power.
To recycle your refrigerator, you can call 1-877-270-3519 during the week or you can drop it off at the Board of Light & Power 2200 Wright Street in Marquette or at 800 Industrial Park Drive in Iron Mountain, Saturday, May 19th from 9a.m. to 1p.m. local time. For more information click here.
