Students talked about how leadership is used in a variety of careers and they also participated in some fun activities
HOUGHTON -- Twenty female high school juniors are participating in Michigan Tech's leadership institute.
Students talked about how leadership is used in a variety of careers, and they also participated in some fun activities. With seven pieces of string tied to a ring, students had to keep a tennis ball from falling to the ground. The event also gives students a better understanding of themselves and how to develop as they enter into their career path.
"It's very important to have female students, not just on campus, but in stem fields, and we know that from tradition, women don't always think of these as the first choice option for them, so we definitely want to encourage that," said Allison Carter, Director of Admissions at MTU.
Michigan Tech says their current female enrollment is 26 percent, and in the next eight years, they would like to increase that number to 35 percent.
