MANISTIQUE -- A home in Manistique has been severely damaged after a fire broke out in an apartment building Friday night.

Officers from Manistique Public Safety responded to the scene at 537 Michigan Ave. shortly before midnight. An upstairs apartment in the building was engulfed in flames. No one was home at the time. An apartment downstairs also received some water and smoke damage. The Michigan State Police and the Schoolcraft County chapter of the American Red Cross assisted on the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
