MARQUETTE -- On May 1, President Obama declared Thursday as a national day of prayer. Churchgoers from the Waters Edge Church in Marquette were participating along with a series of speakers. This year the church focused on seven areas of life including family, business, and government. The speakers came from different congregations and areas in the community.
"Prayer is the most powerful area that we have when it comes to coming before God to lift up our nation. It's the most important thing we have; it's the most powerful thing we have in terms of changing the course of the nation," said Chuck Tooman, an organizer for the church.
Tooman also said that this was a time to put aside differences of denomination and try to steer the nation back on course. The observance of national prayer day at the Waters Edge Church lasted until 3 p.m.
