MUNISING -- The way law enforcement is handled at one of Michigan's national parks is getting a change.
Governor Rick Snyder signed SB 617 on Wednesday, which directly impacts Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore law enforcement. The bill allows National Park Service law enforcement rangers to use state law to respond to crimes against people.
This would relieve the burden placed on state and county officials, who are responsible for responding to incidents at the park.
"Part of protecting our state treasures is ensuring the National Park Service has the authority necessary to provide public safety inside the park," said Snyder.
The bill is now known as Public Act 116 of 2012.
