MARQUETTE -- Registration is still underway for the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center's single biggest fundraising event of the year.

The 7th Annual Hope Starts Here Challenge is on May 12 at the Lakeview Arena and will feature a new event for participants.

"This year we've added a new event--it's competitive half marathon.  We do have chip timing. In addition to the half marathon, we're continuing with the duathalon which we started last year," said Dr. Richard Rovin of the Brain Tumor Center.

You don't have to be competitive to turn out though, there are leisure walks and runs to participate in as well.  In previous years, the center has raised between $20,000 and $25,000 from the event.  The funds go toward supporting ongoing research at the center's Northern Michigan University research lab and the purchasing of new equipment for the center.
