MARQUETTE -- Thanks to popular TV shows like "Dancing with the Stars," local dance instructors say ballroom and swing dancing is becoming more popular.   The Westerly Winds Big Band and the Peter White Public Library hosted this event which was open to the public.

Events like this draw in dancers both young and old.  Instructors say it may look hard, but it's easy to pick up the basics of swing dancing quickly.

"They're all loads of fun, and you can really learn enough to get out on the floor, in an hour or two really," said NMU Dance Advisor, Marge Sklar.

Local enthusiasts say those who want to attend upcoming swing dancing events should pay close attention to community calendars; typically an event is hosted every other month.
