Sweeney was accused of taking some $44,000 in cash from the Harbor Towers Apartments

ESCANABA -- The former director of the Harbor Tower Apartments in Escanaba who was arrested for embezzling money withdrew her no contest plea in Delta County Circuit Court on Friday.

Mary Lynn Sweeny, 62, is charged with one count of public officer embezzlement, diversion of taxes, and public money. It's a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $1,000 fine. Sweeney was accused of taking some $44,000 in cash from the Harbor Towers Apartments. In court the judge said he would sentence her to 90 days in jail. Sweeny has paid $43,700 in restitution.

If both sides can't reach a plea agreement accepted by the court, Sweeny could go to trial.
