Organizers say interest in the profession is strong because the field is making a comeback from the recession

DICKINSON CO. -- For the second year in a row, students from the Dickinson Tech Center have claimed the title and the trophy in the seventh annual U.P. Construction Skills Challenge.

The competition takes place on the NMU campus. Thirteen teams of high school age students participated. The challenge is to build a shed from bottom to roof in just six hours. More teams than ever came out for the contest.

Organizers say interest in the profession is strong because the field is making a comeback from the recession.

"Construction has come back the fastest of some of the ways to make a living," said Tony Retaskie of the U.P. Construction Council. "I think we have our future construction workers behind me, competing in this competition."

The Marquette Senior High School team one took second place, and Marquette Senior High School team two placed third.
