ISHPEMING -- The high school track in Ishpeming has been struck again by vandalism this spring, cancelling all of the school's home meets.

Profanity and other symbols have been spray painted on the relatively new facility.  The track was rebuilt a few years ago with community dollars through a bond.

The school was unable to cover up the damage by the start of the season, forcing the cancellation of all home meets.

"You like to play in front of your home crowd in sports; it's the same in track," said sophomore Noah Olgren.  "You like to be where you're practicing everyday.  To not be able to do that angers you."

"When you have a track meet, the community gets involved--you have volunteers to take times, work different events. Not only are the kids affected but the community as a whole as well," said Head Coach Scott Syrjala.

Coach Syrjala is offering a $500 reward to anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
