Members from the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming volunteered their time again to collect the 4,000 bags they spread out in the community last week

ISHPEMING -- You may remember last week we told you about those empty grocery bags on the doorsteps of many Ishpeming and Negaunee residents. Well, Saturday was pick-up day.

Members from the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming volunteered their time again to collect the 4,000 bags they spread out in the community last week. The bags were meant to be filled with non-perishable items to help out the Salvation Army and St. Vincent DePaul. And the community, once again, delivered.

"We thank everybody in Ishpeming and West Ishpeming and Negaunee for all their wonderful, wonderful contributions," said Project Coordinator Richard Derby. "It makes everybody who's participating in the project feel very, very good. Early this morning there were a lot of bare shelves downstairs, and by the end of today, that will not be the case."

The thousands of pounds of items will help the organizations through the year.
