"Green and Gold" performance to be held end of April

MARQUETTE -- Now that we're well into spring, chances are we won't see much lake effect snow, but in Marquette there's a chance to see a whole different kind of lake effect.

"Go Green and Gold" is the inspiration for the Seasonal Lake Effect Show Choir Show at Northern Michigan University.

Students will be crooning golden classics such as ABBA and even some modern rock like Green Day to shake things up.

"People of every background will get something out of this concert. We have really put a lot of time and effort into it; it's been the whole year," said member Sarah Miller.

Show choir is a class of about 20 students from all walks of life, coming together to do what they love. The students are only in class twice a week for an hour, and two full hours of singing and dancing requires much more practice that aren't on the class schedule.

"It's only half a credit, so really you're not getting much out of it in terms of advancement in your school graduate program. What you get out of it is more emotional and just fun," said member Matthew Johnston.

In the few years the Lake Effect Show Choir has been performing, it's grown from just about 10 students to 25. They're hoping community support for this show will help it become even bigger.

"We don't get to use all the things we wish we could, so if the community members come out and enjoy it, spread the word to other people, we can get more concerts at different venues and earn money," said member Sabrina Wheeler.

The spring show will be April 25 and 26. Snacks and desserts will be served with tickets costing $15 and must be purchased by April 23 at Forsberg Flowers or the NMU Music Department Office.
