MARQUETTE -- Ahead of prom this weekend, Marquette Senior High School continued their weeklong lesson plan to teach students about the dangers of drinking.
On Wednesday morning, freshmen students in health class heard from Bob Swanson, an addiction specialist at the Great Lakes Recovery Center.
The former Ishpeming police officer spoke candidly to the class about the dangers of drinking and how it can have long-term damage to your health.
Students were also asked to complete a self-assessment about their knowledge of alcohol.
"I want to know that I've had something to say about the information about substance abuse, that these young people need to know," said Bob Swanson, a substance abuse educator. "This basic knowledge, at a young age--I think there's so much of it that's missing, particularly about substance abuse."
Thursday, there will be another lesson on impaired driving and on Friday, students will be able to pay one dollar to wear a hat to school, something that's usually forbidden. All proceeds from that go to Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
