MARQUETTE -- Some NMU students say water issues are something everyone on campus should be concerned about.

Several city commissioners attended a forum Friday organized by a member of Students for Sustainable Living. The organization has been trying to collect enough signatures to ban bottled water on campus, an effort present at most Great Lakes universities. Friday's forum was educational.

An expert spoke about the city's wetlands, watersheds, and proper recycling.

"It's so important to Marquette; it really defines the community. It's very safe water and there's an incredible amount of water bottle usage here," said Ivana Busuttil of the organization. "If they decide purchasing water bottles, it's fine, but I found a lot of times, once you lay out all the facts, there's really a big change that happens because there's so many issues involved with bottled water."

Currently, the organization has around 600 signatures.
