MARQUETTE -- The 7th annual Hope Starts Here Challenge is on May 12 at the Lakeview Arena, and will feature a new event for participants.

Registration has begun for the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center's single biggest fundraising event of the year.

"This year we've added a new event, it's a competitive half marathon," said Richard Rovin of the Brain Tumor Center.  "We do have chip timing.  In addition to the half marathon we're continuing with the duathlon which we started last year."

You don't have to be competitive to come out, there are leisure walks and runs to participate in as well.  In previous years, the center has raised between $20,000 and $25,000 from the event.

The funds go towards supporting on-going research at the center's Northern Michigan University research lab and purchasing new equipment for the center.

For more information about the event and how to register, check out the Hope Starts Here Challenge website.
