MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- North Star Academy students are doing their part to raise awareness for world hunger.

The school is hosting its fifth annual "Empty Bowls" fundraiser next Wednesday, where anyone can go to North Star Academy,  and donate $10 to receive a meal and a homemade bowl.

Students have spent the past few months making the bowls, as a reminder that there are hungry people around the world who may not know when their next meal will be.

"The way that you bring a bowl home is a reminder that there are empty bowls around the world. that's another important aspect of  the event is awareness, and always remembering that you can make a difference,"said North Star Student, Mary Ansell.

The fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at North Star Academy.

The proceeds will be split between Room at the Inn and Operation Aoy, which is through the Rice Paddy Restaurant and it's owner  who delivers food and clothing to school children in need in rural Thailand.
