MARQUETTE -- A controversial wetlands restoration brought a parade of concerned citizens to Monday's Marquette City Commission meeting.

Many expressed their dissatisfaction with the project at the Presque Isle Bog Walk.  Environmental groups, including the Audubon Society felt the commission went forward with the project without informing the proper groups. Mayor John Kivela echoed the comments of many commission members when he said that better communication is needed.

"So this has been in the process and unfortunately a lot of times...a) the message doesn't get out to the right people or b) they don't understand and they don't show up.  It happens a lot, I can't tell you (I've been here five and a half years) how many times that comes up with any type of issue," said Marquette Mayor John Kivela

City Manager Bill Vajda said they'll work to put a timeline of the events leading up to the Bog Walk restoration on the city's website, and he also encouraged citizens to take advantage of his office hours.
