MARQUETTE -- After a chilly week, area baseball players were happy to be playing ball in the sunshine on Saturday.
The NMU Club Baseball team held their first game of the season. They hosted Michigan Tech at the Haley Memorial Field in Marquette. Players had quite the interest in the student organization this year.
"We're in the beginning of our program, started in the Fall but it really took off this Spring, we had a lot of interest, a couple new captains and we have 20 good ballplayers out, about 6 games scheduled and Tech was the first one calling," Drew Baden, who plays second base for NMU, said.
The team lost to their rivals in a double header. The first game was close, the Cats lost 15-16, and the second 5-20.
