The annual UPAWS fundraiser at the Upfront & Company in Marquette drew in nearly two hundred people

MARQUETTE -- Area pet lovers came together to celebrate people and their pets on Saturday.

The annual UPAWS fundraiser at the Upfront & Company in Marquette drew in nearly two hundred people. Dinner and entertainment were included at $45 a piece.

Last year, 1,800 pets were adopted from the shelter, with the help of community funding.

"Events like these are wonderful for us because it brings in donations which will help us support all these animals and help these animals get into loving homes so we are very grateful to the support of the community and our donors and everyone that has attended this event tonight," Ann Brownell, vice president of the board, said.

One of the awards given out went to long-time UPAWS supporter Dr. Tim Hunt, who donates food to the shelter.
