MARQUETTE COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS -- The 1432nd Engineering Company out of Iron River is helping out at the Marquette County Fairgrounds. The midway at the fairgrounds has been uneven for the past few years, and the National Guard has stepped in to help out. As part of a training program with heavy equipment, the troops leveled out the midway and removed some unwanted trees.

"This is something we could not afford, it just wasn't in our budget and getting this done by them is a great help to the overall success of the fair and improving the overall fairgrounds," said Bill Hager of the Marquette County Fairgrounds.

The soldiers will complete work at the fairgrounds Thursday evening and will then move all of their equipment back to Iron River. The fairgrounds is also looking to expand the number of events held there.
