MANISTIQUE -- Every year local organizations with different causes unite for the same goal, all thanks to the CBC.
The CBC is an organization that raises funds for The Cancer Society, Bay Cliff Health Camp, and Community Charities. It is their 45th year of putting on a live telethon filled with lots of performances.
Karen Schlicher with Bay Cliff, says the CBC does so much for them.
"It's so much fun to come down to CBC. They're such huge supporters of Bay Cliff, and without them we would be hard pressed to raise the funds that we need for the children to come to camp," said Schlicher.
Pledges made provide treatment to those like 17-year-old, Eugene Fletcher.
"I've had a lot of therapy, and there's nowhere that I can get that much therapy in one spot, so that helps a lot," said Fletcher.
Local talent filled the stage time during the telethon. Among them is Vanguard from Munising.
"We always enjoy it. It's a good cause, and we get to sing. Right before we came, we went to a nursing home, so we had an opportunity to practice the numbers over there. It's just a lot of fun," said Nasaz.
People were able to call in to make a pledge, bid on an item, and enjoy the fun games. General chair, Michael Powers, says due to economic times they lost the Manistique paper's donation.
"They've been a very big part of it. They're not going to be able to join us this year, but I think other people will help pick up that slack. So, yes, it has been a challenge in 2012, but we're working hard. The numbers will tell us today if we're able to reach our goal," said Powers.
They met their goal last year at $47,000. Officials say they are confident that this year they will exceed that amount.
