MARQUETTE -- If you're holding a single lottery ticket on Friday night, you have a one in 167 million chance of winning the historic Mega Millions jackpot.
The prize was at $640 million at 4 p.m. on Friday, the largest it has ever been. The jackpot grew within hours, and was only $540 million on Friday morning.
Would-be lottery winners have been lining up at stores nationwide. At Superior Blue Link in Marquette, customers have been in a ticket buying frenzy since the jackpot rolled over on Tuesday. The store has sold more than a thousand tickets since Friday morning.
"About at least 100 times the amount we usually sell, people who have never even bought a lottery ticket are buying one right now most people are doing quick picks 5 quick picks, 20 quick picks, some are giving up to one hundred if not more," said Store Manager Jen Gustafson. "They're buying a lot."
The drawing takes place at 11 p.m. EST. The winner can choose to have that amount doled out in yearly payments or take a lump sum cash payout of about $390 million.
