ESCANABA -- Fifteen students from the Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District will soon travel to Lansing for a state level skills USA competition to compete against the best.

The Delta-Schoolcraft ISD students have placed third in the state in CNC Machining, which is using a computer to automate metal fabricating equipment, in the last two years.  Their instructor says there's a high chance they can reach first place this time around.

The students will compete in an automotive and CNC competition.  Some are preparing to demonstrate vehicle preparation, while others are honing their CNC machining skills.

"Well, at the beginning of the year, I got a deep interest in CNC, so I've been slowly progressing, making harder things on the CNC," said student Kyle Pinozek.  "At first I started off with a license plate, and that just progressed.  And I just made other parts for my jets."

The students will win tools and scholarships at the competition April 12 through April 22.
