MARQUETTE -- A dozen business and community leaders came together in Marquette on Wednesday to learn more about how to run their organization more effectively.

The Great Lakes Center for Youth Development hosted the board training workshop at the Peter White Public Library.  Local for-profit and non-profit groups were in attendance for the three hour presentation.

Primarily the focus of the workshop was assessing the kind of board an organization has and how to make it lead more successfully.

"Through board assessment we learn so much about our boards and how they're doing," said President of the Great Lakes Center for Youth Development Judy Watson.  "What kind of job they're doing, how comfortable the board members are in the job they're trying to do and we can identify areas that we need to do work."

The Great Lakes Center will hold upcoming workshops in May on how groups can better collaborate with one another.  Those workshops will be taking place this May in Marquette, Hancock, and Harris.
