HOUGHTON -- Located in the lower lobby of Michigan Tech's Rozsa Center is the annual Great Lakes Showcase.
One of the things that stands out about the 138 pieces on display is that it doesn't just include paintings. There are also sculptures, books, fabric, and woodwork on display.
"I just think it's so important for artists to create with their hands. I know that we're in a digital age, but I just think that it's a great way to use our hands and creative minds," said Senior Lecturer on Visual Arts, Susanne Kilpela.
Kilpela says there aren't a lot of places in the U.P. where people can view art, and they want the public to know that all are welcome. She also says anyone who chooses to see the art up close will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite piece.
The votes won't be tallied until the end of the showcase on March 30, and the winning artist will receive the Community Choice Award.
