MARQUETTE -- People from all over the Upper Peninsula rallied together on Friday for a common cause:  the hope of curing cancer.

Northern Michigan University hosted their annual Relay for Life event where anyone was invited to celebrate cancer survivors and victims.

There are 30 teams registered so far, and they've all set up booths; some are selling baked goods or playing games.  This year's donation goal is $27,000, just $2,000 more than what they made last year.

"It's a great feeling to be able to help out those in need, those who are fighting cancer currently, and those who will fight in the future," said organizer Kevin Konicek.  "Cancer affects one in three people, and it's a big impact, and if we can do even a little bit, those families, those survivors, those people who are impacted by cancer, have a little bit more of a fighting chance from what we're doing here in the next 24 hours."

All of the proceeds collected are donated to the American Cancer Society, and it lasts until 1 p.m. on Saturday.
