MARQUETTE -- Sixty United States District Courts across the country could be closed by the federal government, and one of them is in Michigan.
Marquette is home to a federal court facility, but according to a federal court official, Marquette is not on the chopping block. However, Traverse City's federal court facility is up for closure.
The 60 targeted courts were identified from a national survey, asking about federal court facilities that were not being used and didn't have a resident justice.
The possible closures in 29 states are part of an effort to cut costs. exas, Arkansas, and Georgia would be hit the hardest, with each having five court facilities on the list.
