After ten years, a Broadway favorite is returning to Gwinn schools
GWINN -- After 10 years, a Broadway favorite is returning to Gwinn Schools. Students will be performing "Fiddler on the Roof" this weekend.
It's a story of family and tradition--a poor Jewish peasant struggles with marrying off his three daughters while anti-Semitic sentiment threatens his home.
The Tony-award winning musical is one of Broadway's most popular. Fiddler on the Roof is a tale you've likely seen before but not quite like this.
"Many people have seen the movie, but with a play, it's not just watching a movie, it's watching as us actors portray this performance to you in a way that no one's ever seen," said senior Kaleb Kantas.
Director Dave Dagenais was with the drama department the last time the popular musical hit the stage. He chose to bring it back simply because the talent was there; he has a cast of skilled, hard working students at his fingertips.
"We're here for many, many hours, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals and performances," said Dagenais. "Kids really have to make an effort to keep up with homework, get sleep, and take care of themselves."
You can catch Fiddler the Roof Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Gwinn High School Cafetorium.
Tickets are $4 for students and $6 for adults. They are available at the school or at select Marquette county businesses.
