MARQUETTE -- Marquette County celebrated its officer of the year Wednesday.

Scott Jennings, of the Chocolay Township Police Department, accepted the annual distinction in front of his law enforcement peers at Northern Michigan University.

The NMU graduate has served in the force for 26 years and in 2011 was promoted to the rank of sergeant.

Among his accomplishments, Jennings has worked to upgrade the technology at his department and was the first responding officer to the scene of last year's bank robbery in Chocolay Township.

"It's been a lot of things over the last 26 years.  I was quite pleased with how the recent bank robbery last year turned out.  I'm glad that it came to a successful conclusion and was able to help everyone," said Jennings

The trophy he received has the names of all previous recipients and will stay at the Chocolay Township Police Department until next year's winner is announced.
