ISHPEMING -- The 20-year-old U.S. National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame is in the final stages of getting a facelift.
The building's reconstruction is primarily focused on the south side roof. Museum officials stated that the aging and poorly insulated roof led to sagging windows and leaks during storms.
Dan Perkins said he and his construction company stepped up to help work on the job because of the significance the museum plays in the community.
"It's amazing that the only Ski Hall of Fame for all forms of skiing is right here in our hometown of Ishpeming," said Perkins. "And we all need to do whatever we can to support it and keep it alive."
The exterior reconstruction is estimated at $70,000, and an additional $30,000 is needed for interior work.
The museum says it has been conducting a special fundraising drive to help pay for the work.
