MARQUETTE -- State Rep. Steven Lindberg was in Marquette Saturday for a discussion on local issues relating to children and education.
Marquette Alger Great Start Collaborative Parent Coalition hosted the forum at the U.P. Children's Museum. That's where Lindberg addressed questions from community members and education officials from various surrounding counties.
Lindberg spoke on issues ranging from additional funding for autistic students to expanding pre-kindergarten programs.
The central theme from Lindberg, a former educator himself, was the need to invest in education at an early age.
"If we're going to compete in the global marketplace, we have to have the best educated workforce possible," said Rep. Steven Lindberg. "It starts real young and continues throughout a lifetime."
This is the lawmaker's last term in office, but before he retires from politics, Lindberg says he hopes the state will pass a package of bills aimed at closing tax loopholes to provide every student in Michigan a college education.
