Saturday, dozens of parents, community leaders and law enforcement came out to MARESA in Marquette to better understand adolescent suicide.

The presentation, called "Youth Crisis and Suicide," was lead by Dave Opalewski, a counselor and professor a Central Michigan University.

Opalewski spoke of the need to remove the stigma associated with the topic of suicide and the importance of reaching out to youth struggling with depression.

"That's the question we have to answer:  why do they feel no one cares? Why do they feel they can't go to anyone and then the next question is what can we do to change that perception?" asked Dave Opalewski.

Opalewski recently met with school administrators in Marquette County to put forward new intiatives for ways to combat the crisis.
