This winter storm is no joke. Heavy wet snow has been falling all night into the morning. As it becomes primarily lake effect, it will continue falling through the day. Winter storm warnings are in effect for Marquette County and everywhere east. They are scheduled to expire by 7am ET Sunday and sooner depending on which warnings.

By 10am ET Saturday, Ishpeming had already received 10 inches, and more than 8 inches in Luce and Schoolcraft counties. From here on out the heaviest snowfall will be along Lake Superior from L'Anse east to Sault. St. Marie.

Snowfall will continue all day and night, but lighterning up slowly but surely as the evening progresses. Areas along the lake should see another 4 to 7 inches. Further from the lake, a couple more inches is likely. The western and far southern U.P. should see less than that.

One of the main hazards is the wind. Even if snowfall lessens, strong winds can maintain blizzard-like conditions with poor visibility. Winds will be out of the north today around 15 to 20 mph with gusts approaching 25 to 30.

Naturally that will also add considerable wind chill, but highs today will be in the mid 20s.

Saturday night will see lows around 10. Snowfall will decrease and winds will die down to 8 to 15 mph.

Sunday's snowfall will be much lighter, but lake effect snow will continue through the day adding perhaps an extra inch to areas along Lake Superior. Highs will be around 20 degrees and winds will be light out of the north.
