MARQUETTE -- A downstate resident is jailed after a snowmobile chase with police through the City of Marquette.

This started around 1:15 on Thursday morning, when Marquette City Police saw a snowmobile being operated on West Washington Street at a high rate of speed and a driver not wearing a helmet.

The snowmobiler allegedly ignored police trying to pull him over, using both squad car lights and an officer who got out of his vehicle and was using hand and verbal signals.

Chase speeds reached near 70 miles an hour at times, according to police.  It ended when the snowmobiler turned into a parking lot on Lakeshore, where he was unable to go any further.

He then tried to get into a nearby building, but was stopped by locked doors.

Police took 22-year-old Walter Anthony Kalicki III into custody.  The Allen Park resident was charged with operating while intoxicated and third degree fleeing and eluding.
