MARQUETTE -- A group of Bahai believers celebrated the start of their fasting season. It's part of their Ayyam I Ha celebration which they held at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette on Sunday.

The religion is centuries old with more than five million followers. Sunday's activities included food, music and different crafts.

Their 19 days of fasting begins on March 1.

"It's something the profit founder of the faith told us to do, to have this period of hospitality, a period of gift giving and so forth, and in Marquette we've been having this on a regular basis as long as I've been a Bahai which is about 25 years now," said Dennis McCowen, secretary of the Spiritual Assembly of the Bahai in Marquette.

Ayyam I Ha festivities last for four days.
