MARQUETTE -- It's a plea deal for the man accused of buying and hiding more than 4,000 pounds of explosives in the eastern Upper Peninsula.

Federal prosecutors reached the deal with John Francis Lechner of Sault Ste. Marie.  He plead guilty on Tuesday in federal court in Marquette to possessing explosives.  Four other counts were dismissed.

A federal agent says they served a search warrant in Chippewa County and found 83 bags of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil, plus a supply of explosive boosters, detonating cord and blasting caps.

Lechner's attorney says his client acquired the materials years ago for construction projects.

Lechner could get up to 10 years in prison.  He'll be sentenced on May 25.
