ESCANABA -- About 30 students with disabilities took an eight-week art class at Earthly Creations Studio in Escanaba.

Now their artwork is on display at the Hartwig Gallery at Bay College.  The exhibit is called Art Works for Everyone, and it features pastels, acrylics and jewelry.

Art instructor Penny Jussila has been working with students with disabilities for the past three years.  She says the art lessons help build students' confidence to do more in the community.

"It doesn't matter if you have a disability," said Jussila.  "You have an ability to be able to create something.  It's an unstructured classroom setting, and everybody works together, too."

The Developmental Disabilities Council of Michigan awarded a grant to Community Mental Health to fund scholarships to help students with class tuition.
