BARAGA COUNTY -- Baraga Schools are finding ways to keep kids active and healthy, and they're starting with the parents.
Organizers are hosting a family wellness night on Tuesday evening at the Baraga Area School. The event is a first for the schools.
From 6 to 8 p.m., parents and children can participate in different physical activities like Zumba and yoga. An expert will educate parents on youth obesity and eating well. The purpose is to keep children away from the couch.
"I think it's so important that, in general, for the kids to be active. It helps them academically, it helps them physically; it's just critical, and I think that it should be a fun night and great opportunity for families who maybe haven't tried yoga or Zumba," said Pelkie Elementary teacher, Monica Markham. "They can do it with their kids, and it should be a good time."
Vendors from Baraga County Memorial Hospital, the KBIC Health Department, and Indigo Massage will also be on hand to offer free health tips.
