KINGSFORD -- The Great Eight Winter Games in the Iron Mountain-Kingsford area are scheduled to begin Saturday.  The Winter Games, which are the last of their kind in the U.P., feature fourth through eighth graders participating in a variety of events including basketball, snowboarding, archery and chess.

Bragging rights will be on the line.

The opening ceremonies will be at Kingsford Middle School gym.

“We also light the Olympic torch for the Winter Games, and it's a lot of fun,” said Carol Maloney. “Lots of noise; the kids get very excited.”

The games begin Saturday morning at 8:30 Central.
