ISHPEMING -- The 1430th Engineering Unit of the Michigan National Guard met on Friday at the Ishpeming Armory for a post deployment health reassessment.

The soldiers returned last November from serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.  Veteran Affairs and employment representatives were present, along with service officers, to document any mental or physical injuries that may have resulted during deployment.

The goal of PDHRA is to let the 164 service women and men know what options are open to them.  For some returning troops, just establishing personal connections is challenging.

"Yes, I'm still trying to get back in with my friends and be back to normal, where, what may seem like a big thing to them, is not really such a big thing for me anymore," said Spec. Shanna Foreman, National Guard.

Soldiers spoke with medical staff for an overall health assessment, including a tuberculosis test, which will come back Sunday.
