MARQUETTE -- Seventh graders at Father Marquette Middle School Skyped with NASA for a virtual lecture Thursday.

Using Skype NASA dialed in to Ms. Phillifant's class, the class is learning about proportions in math. Students may think they will not use this information in the future.

The idea is to show students how their class work relates to the real world.

"I think it's cool that we're talking to NASA 'cause they've learned so much about space and everything, and I never thought I'd actually do anything like that," said seventh grader, Kate Gagnon.

Students will take what they learned and create their own scale models using ratios.

NASA provides this program for free.
