IRON MT. -- Congressman Dan Benishek said he is slowly but surely trying to create more jobs in the U.P.

He recently helped with a legislation that would streamline the legal process for cutting down trees in federal forests. Under the old law, people could sue the company cutting down the trees at any point during the process.

This could put a huge dent in logging operations.

"Should make it easier for us here in Northern Michigan to harvest the trees in the federal forests, give loggers and people that use those products in the woods more opportunity to work and make money and hire more people," said Benishek.

Under the new law, you can no longer sue a logging company during the operation, only at the beginning.
