MARQUETTE -- Downtown Marquette will be all about sled dogs Friday night, February 17. That’s because the Midnight Run Sled Dog Race with its 30 teams will be starting in downtown on Washington Street.

The U.P. 200 traditionally starts in Marquette, but this year it’ll start in Chatham due to the lack of snow on sections of the trail.

The Midnight Run, which consists of 30 sleds with dog teams of eight, will begin at 7:10 p.m.

The mushers will take a designated route around the downtown then will load their dogs and officially start in Chatham.

According to U.P. 200 President Pat Torreano, the sled dog fans downtown will see more dog teams run down Washington Street than ever before.

Along with the bolstered start, other activities are scheduled for the downtown event.

The U.P. 200 and Midnight Run will both officially start in Chatham. The U.P. 200 ends in Grand Marais on Sunday.

The Midnight Run ends Saturday in Munising.
