MARQUETTE -- The Marquette County Board of Commissioners gave its approval to extend renaissance zone status for the renewaFUEL plant located in Sawyer.

New owner, RNFL Acquisitions, will receive tax breaks as a result.

The renaissance zone status will cost Marquette County about $13,000 a year.

RNFL Acquisitions is already receiving a lease reassignment and a six-month rent waiver from the board.

RFNL plans to take over the biofuel plant with plans to get it running again.

Cliffs ended production and put the plant up for sale last fall.
