BARAGA -- An automotive repair shop in Baraga was damaged by fire Tuesday afternoon. The fire broke out around 2:30. Firefighters said they could see thick black smoke billowing from the front of Lakeside Automotive.
Welding tanks were fueling the fire, but firefighters were able to put it out in a matter of minutes.
"I asked them what happened and they said that they were using the torch that they use on cars, and then it actually backfired and then the fuse went inside of the line. It went in back and then it and ignited and set the whole thing on fire," said firefighter, Mariah Dunham.
L'Anse firefighters were also called onto the scene.
Inside the shop, a small amount of white smoke could still be seen rising from the debris. Two cars and a $20,000 computer were just a few of the items damaged in the fire.
No injuries were reported, and officials say it could have been a lot worse.
